January 2020 - in London

We just flew back to Boston having spent almost a month in the UK. I managed to go to IRDG’s Christmas Meeting (http://www.irdg.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IRDG-Dec-2019-v4.pdf) always a combination of excellent spectroscopy good food and drink, and a lot of fun. Andrew Whitely’s after-lunch talk was particularly memorable.

We also saw a number of plays: ‘Measure for Measure’ by the RSC at the Barbican (https://www.rsc.org.uk/measure-for-measure/), which has a very relevant and modern plot, Ian McKellen’s one-man show at the Harold Pinter, and Swive in the Sam Wanamaker theatre at The Globe.

From the RSC:

'TO WHOM SHOULD I COMPLAIN?'

When a young novice nun is compromised by a corrupt official, who offers to save her brother from execution in return for sex, she has no idea where to turn for help. When she threatens to expose him, he tells her that no one would believe her.

Shakespeare wrote this play in the early 1600s, yet it remains astonishingly resonant today. Artistic Director Gregory Doran directs this new production.”

Back home, we’re making good progress on the book project….
